Attempted Bombing Plot Targeting January 6 Defendant Jake Lang Foiled by Authorities

Federal authorities say they have arrested a suspect accused of attempting to carry out a bombing targeting Jake Lang, a figure associated with individuals charged in connection with the January 6 United States Capitol attack.

Officials reported that the arrest took place on March 7, 2026, after investigators uncovered an alleged plan to deploy an explosive device against Lang. The device was recovered by authorities and rendered inoperable before it could be used.

Lang has remained a controversial public figure since receiving a pardon from Donald Trump in January 2025. After serving time related to the January 6 events, he continued to speak publicly about his views regarding the incident and its aftermath.

In some statements, Lang has claimed the events of that day were misrepresented and has promoted theories about government involvement. Some of his remarks have also included antisemitic conspiracy claims, which have drawn criticism from Jewish organizations, lawmakers from multiple political parties, and others within conservative circles.

Despite the controversy, Lang continues to have supporters among a segment of people sympathetic to individuals charged in connection with January 6.

According to investigators, the alleged plot was discovered through a combination of tips, surveillance, and investigative work by federal law enforcement agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities say the suspect is facing multiple federal charges, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and related offenses. Officials have not yet released further details about the suspect’s identity or potential motive as the investigation continues.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding individuals connected to the January 6 cases, particularly those who remain publicly active.

President Donald Trump was briefed on the situation, according to officials, and condemned any attempt at political violence while reiterating support for individuals he previously pardoned.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that threats of violence against any individual are taken seriously and will be investigated regardless of the target’s political views or past statements.
